In 1984, Lolita Shanté Gooden, then a 15-year-old Queens rapper assumed the name Roxanne Shanté and released the single "Roxanne's Revenge." For those who do not know the story this release was an answer to rap group U.T.F.O's B-side and was an early rap hit!

She was revered as a battle MC hailing from Queens, New York and was definitely a fierce teenager with a lot of pubic adolence pressures, not to mention the record execs sharks snapping their fingers, hands, paws, and jaws...."Lions and Tigers and Bears, oh my!"
